Chiefs’ Holmes Might Retire After Latest Injury

Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes is considering retirement after sustaining another neck injury during the team's last game against the Indianapolis Colts, ESPN said.

Holmes has consulted with his family and spoken with medical experts in the past few days, and will make a decision shortly, ESPN said, citing two unidentified people close to the four-time Pro Bowler.

Holmes originally hurt his neck and head on a helmet-to- helmet hit during a game against the San Diego Chargers in October 2005. He appeared in just seven games that season, and sat out all of last year while recovering. He returned to play in an Oct. 21 game against the Oakland Raiders and has rushed for 137 yards on 46 attempts over four games this season.

Holmes is Kansas City's all-time leader in rushing yards (6,070), total touchdowns (83) and rushing touchdowns (76). He set a then-league record with 27 touchdowns during the 2003 season. He began his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 1998.
