seantaylor.jpgVery scary and serious situation is developing here with Washington Redskins Safety Sean Taylor. He was shot in his Miami home during a burglary.

There are reports that Sean Taylor is fighting for his life and in critical condition.

The Redskins have released this statement:

“The Washington Redskins became aware of a situation this morning in which safety Sean Taylor was the victim of a shooting at his residence in Florida. The Miami Dade Police Department is currently investigating the situation. Taylor is currently undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.”

I will report more on this as it develops

Note to Todd Sauerbrun, Don’t kick to Devin Hester

Someone tell Todd Sauerbrun not to open his mouth before any games every again. This week before their game against the Bears, the Broncos kicker was quoted saying “We’re not going to kick away from [Devin Hester], we respect him and he’s the best but we have guys our our coverage teams that are paid to make big tackles.”

So they decided to challenge Hester. I guess they forgot about him with all the talk about Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington this season. Big mistake. Heres what happened when they punted to him.

That was Saurbrun on the ground that he leaped over. Nice view. So Hester’s gotta be tired right? No way he could do it again right? Wrong.

After that you have to think that he learned his lesson so he tried to punt it away from Hester, only to have his punt blocked by Charles Tillman to set up the Bears for another score in their improbably comeback win against the Broncos. Better luck next time Todd

Sauerbrun, who was originally drafted by the Bears, bought 40 tickets for family and friends. They got to watch him have one of the worst games you could ever imagine for a kicker.

Givin him the Business

HAHAHAHAHAHA! This has got to be the call of the year. ACC Official Ron Cherry gives a descriptive reason why he called a penalty in the 11/24/07 game between the Maryland Terrapins and the NC State Wolfpack. Hilarious. Thanks to Mr. Irrelevant for puttin me up on this one. Check out the video.

Ron Cherry was probably trying to pay homage to the original business giver. In a game in the 80s featuring the Jets vs the Bills Mark Gastineau was the Ref. and he said the same thing. Great call. Check this one out.

Ray Allen’s game winner bails out the Celtics

When your 11-1 and you have all star like Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett then things are going to go your way. However sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.

Last night the Boston Celtics were down 95-93 against the Charlotte Bobcats with 4.7 seconds to go. All the Bobcats had to do to give the Celtics their second loss of the season was to inbound the ball, get fouled, hit some free throws and it would’ve been a wrap. Thats not how it went down though, check it out.

Shakeup in NCAA football

daniel.jpgWow. What a weekend in college football. What a year. Twelve times this season, an unranked team defeated a top 5 team this year. Thats gotta be some kind of record. Everytime we think that we have this thing figured out, Arkansas beats LSU or something.

daniel.jpgWow. What a weekend in college football. What a year. Twelve times this season, an unranked team defeated a top 5 team this year. Thats gotta be some kind of record. Everytime we think that we have this thing figured out, Arkansas beats LSU or something.

Here are the current scenarios though. It’s actually pretty simple for the teams that are still eligible to win the national championship.

#3 - Ohio State (11-1)

There season is done. All they can do in order to make it to the championship game is hope that one of the teams that are ahead of them lose. If not then expect to see them play USC in the Rose Bowl.

#2 - West Virginia (10-1)

Pat White should definitely been considered for the Heisman. I don’t think that he will win it over Tebow or McFadden but he definitely took it to the Huskies in the Big east championship game. West Virginia won 66-21 over #20 Connecticut. Now in order to make it to the championship game, all West Virginia has to do is beat unranked 4-7 Pittsburgh at home next week. Judging by how this season has been going though, my money’s on Pitt.

#1 - Missouri (11-1)

It looked like Chase Daniel and Missouri were going to run away with the game against Kansas but before you knew it, it was 34-28 in the fourth quarter. Kansas just wouldn’t go down without a fight but in the end they were able to pull it out. Now they’ve got a tough game against #9 Oklahoma for the big 12 championship. Oklahoma was the only team to beat Missouri this year. If they can pull it out, they will be in the National championship game.

Sports Wrap for yesterday: Arkansas upsets #1 LSU, RIP Joe Kennedy, Happy trails to Bill Callahan

joekennedy.jpgRIP Joe Kennedy

Major League pitcher Joe Kennedy died at his in laws home in Tampa, FL on friday. After going to bed early he woke up at 1:15 am and collapsed. He was immediately rushed to Brandon Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death could not immediately be determined, agent Damon Lapa said.

Kennedy was in the Majors for seven years posting a 43-61 career record with a 4.79 ERA in 222 appearances. He played for three teams last season. With Oakland, Arizona and most recently with Toronto. “We were terribly shocked,” Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey told The Associated Press. “From what we understand he was in Brandon … to be the best man at a wedding today.”

My hope is that this is not a steroid or ephedra related death. Hopefully this isn’t another Steve Bechler situation but only time will tell. In the meantime lets poor out our liquor for Joe Kennedy.

LSU falls to unranked Arkansas

Just when we thought we had this NCAA football season figured out, another top 5 team falls to an unranked team. At this point it seems like its better to be unranked. This is the 12th time this season that an unranked team has beaten a top 5 team. :?: :?:

#1 LSU lost to Arkansas yesterday in triple overtime, 50-48. This was LSU’s second triple overtime loss this season. This effectively removes them from any title hopes that they had this season.

If you didn’t already know, Darren McFadden is a beast. He ran for 206 yards and three touchdowns. If that wasn’t enough he also threw for another one. After the game his coach called out ESPN analysts Mark May and Lou Holtz for not mentioning McFadden’s name in the Heisman race.

Regardless of whether or not McFadden wins the Heisman he will most likely be the first pick in the NFL draft next year and he will continue to dominate in the NFL. He has a very bright future.

Lakers/Celtics rivalry was renewed last night, sort of

There was a special atmosphere last night in Boston when the old 80s rivalry between the Celtics and the Lakers was renewed. This was the first time that both of these teams were pretty good in a long time but before long the Celtics took control of the game and didn’t look back.arnold.jpg

With the crowd screaming “Beat L.A.” the whole night the Celtics beat the Lakers 107-94. Kevin Garnett has been a double double machine this year and last night was no different with Garnett scoring 21 points and pulling down 11 boards. Kobe Bryant scored 28 points in the loss.

On a side note, Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the building. You know its a big game when the Terminator shows up.

Maurice Jones-Drew OWNS Shawne Merriman

So last week in Jacksonville the Jags handled the Chargers in their week 11 game. The victory was a sub plot though. The big story was how Shawne Merriman got decked by Maurice Jones Drew. Before you watch the video, lets look at the facts. Shawne Merriman is 6-4 and 272 lbs while Maurice Jones Drew is 5-7 and 208 lbs. Keep that in mind.
