Shaq to Suns is almost done

According to Yahoo sports the Suns and the Heat are in serious talks to complete a blockbuster trade.  The deal is said to send Shaquille O’neal to the Suns in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. 

According to this source, the only thing that is holding the deal up is Shaquille O’neal passing a physical.  He is expected to travel to Phoenix on a private plane on Wednesday to undergo the physical as well as have an MRI on his left hip.  If he passes the physical, this is said to be a done deal.

Shawn Marion had asked for a trade at the start of the season because he is not getting the credit that he feels that he deserves.  He feels like he is behind Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire.  Which is true but he is still one of the best third options in the league.  Besides the fact that Marion is unhappy there, the Suns feel that they need some defensive help and with Shaq in the middle, they can move Amare to the PF position and really compete with other teams with big men.

It’s hard to say how this trade will help the Heat but I guess they are tired of Shaq getting injured all of the time and they realize that they aren’t the team they thought they were going to be this year so they might as well cut their losses and move on.

With other teams like the Lakers making trades for big men, you have to think that the Suns are feeling the pressure.  That’s why they are making a trade for someone who is older and slower.  He won’t be able to keep up with Nash and the high flying Suns but he gets past his ego, he might be able to squeeze one more championship out of his already Hall of Fame career.
