So you knew it was only a matter of time before more teams in the West continued the current trend of making big moves before this seasons playoffs. These plays are going to be amazing.
Anyway, today the Spurs made a big trade by picking up F/C Kurt Thomas from the Sonics for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick. This trade will have some big effects for the Spurs and it puts them back right there with all of the top teams in the West.
Thomas whos 6-9 and a 13 year vet, will give Tim Duncan a lot of help on the defensive end and will compliment him on the offensive end. Kurt Thomas averaged 7.5 point and 8.8 rebounds this year with the Sonics.
Losing Kurt Thomas was the reason the Suns traded for Shaq. They missed his interior defense and that will help the Spurs out a lot against the loaded Western conference.
The only downside of this trade for the Spurs is that they will definitely miss Brent Barry's three point shooting. He has always been a clutch shooter, especially when it's playoff time and that helps out a lot in the playoffs but with guys like Robert Horry, Michael Finley, and Bruce Bowen on the perimeter, I think they'll be ok. Very good deal for the Spurs.
