Blue Jays 3 - Phillies 10: The Phillies’ Jayson Werth was the story in this game. Werth came up huge for the Phillies with 3 home runs in his first 3 at bats. Not too shabby. He also tied a Phillies record for RBIs with 8. He was responsible for most of the runs in their 10-3 win over the Blue Jays.
Pirates 4 - Cubs 7: Alfonso Soriano isn’t exactly Jayson Werth but he still had a productive day yesterday with 2 home runs in his first 2 at bats to lead the Cubs to the 7-4 in over the Pirates. Soriano has been booed a lot this season but he is trying to show that he can actually lead a team and he is making a pretty good case for himself. This week he has had 5 home runs.
Tigers 3 - Diamondbacks 4: Eric Byrnes finally managed to break out of his slump yesterday, too bad we can’t say the same thing for the Tigers. Byrnes has gone over the last month without being productive at all, fortunately his team has still been winning but last night he finally managed to contribute to it. He went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI’s to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 win over the Tigers. This was the Tigers fifth straight loss.
Rays 3 - Cardinals 1: Rays starting pitcher Andy Sonnanstine shut down the Cardinals bats for 8 innings by throwing a 2 hitter and helping the Rays to continue rolling in their 3-1 win over the Cardinals last night. Akinori Iwamura also contributed 3 hits and an RBI for the Rays who are now 8 games above .500 for the first time in their history.
