Pirates 7 - Cubs 6: Alfonso Soriano hit 2 home runs for the second straight game but it wasn't enough to help the Cubs to a win. It was Nate McLouth’s 9th inning home run off Carlos Marmol that allowed the Pirates to break the tie and get the 7-6 road win over the Cubs.
White Sox 3 - Giants 1: Barry Zito has been having a rough year to say the least. Yesterday he became the first Giants pitcher since 1890 to open a season with 8 straight losses as he the White Sox beat the Giants 3-1. Zito didn't pitch incredibly bad though, he only gave up 2 runs but he allowed 8 hits, 6 walks and struck out just 4 batters. Zito officially duped the Giants when they signed him to his incredible contract.
Padres 2 - Mariners 4: Erik Bedard finally came through for the Mariners at a time when the struggling team really needed a strong pitching performance. Bedard pitched 8 innings and struck out 10 in the Mariners 4-2 win over the Padres last night. He got a little bit of help Adrian Beltre, who hit a 2 run home run in the 7th inning to put the M's up for good.
Mets 7 - Yankees 4: Johan Santana made the Yankees pay for not picking him up in the offseason yesterday. He pitched an efficient 7.2 innings to help the Mets to a 7-4 win in the first game of the Mets/Yankees subway series. Santana gave up 3 home runs but that was it and he got home run help from David Wright and Jose Reyes in the win.
