Jaromir Jagr signed with a Russian team one day after parting ways with the New York Rangers. If you remember, he played for the Russian team the Avangard Omsk during the lockout shortened season in 2004-05.

Well Now Jagr is returning to the Omsk. He signed a deal with them yesterday. No one specified the exact terms of the signing but it is believed to be a tax free $7 million which equals out to about $11 million for a season in the NHL. Not a bad deal.

From the New York Post:

“It was the toughest decision in my life, hockeywise. … No question about it. I hate making changes,” Jagr told The Canadian Press.

“I’m thankful for the three years I had in New York,” Jagr said. “They were great years. I understand that I’m older and the team decided to go in a different direction because they couldn’t get the deal done.”

It was rumored that Jagr had some options to continue playing in the NHL.  The Penguins, Oilers, and Rangers were all looking to sign the 36 year old but none of them were able to close deal.

Happy trails to Jagr. Good luck in Russia. This will probably be the last time we hear about him. As far as Americans are concerned, he’s retired.
