George Steinbrenner was in the building last night at Yankees stadium to participate in the pregame ceremonies. This was the bosses first trip to Yankee stadium this season.

He delivered baseballs to four Yankees legends who tossed out the first pitch(s).

After the All-Star teams and 49 Hall of Famers were introduced, Joe Buck, the Fox broadcaster, referred to a special guest sitting in a golf cart in left field. It was Steinbrenner, who wept as he was driven across the outfield warning track and onto the field. He received a polite ovation.

When the golf cart reached the mound, Steinbrenner handed the baseballs to Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson and Goose Gossage, the Yankees’ four Hall of Famers who were on the field. Ford and Berra kissed Steinbrenner, and Jackson and Gossage hugged him.

It was nice to see the old boss back, at least for once. He has had a lot of health issues and I wish him the best. It’s too bad he can’t pull a Michael Jordan on us because it definitely doesn’t look like his son really knows what he is doing.

Looks like another case of some guy running his business one way and then his son coming in a fuckin everything up worse than he did. Sounds kind of like the Bush administration.

Chase Utley is sowry

I knew mic’ing up players what a bad idea, but no one wanted to believe me. During yesterday’s home run derby competition they mic’d up Chase Utley and we all saw the outcome of that.

Chase was caught blurting out some naughty words to the fans at Yankee stadium who booed him when he was introduced.

Well today, Utley has apologized about the comment.

“It was a poor choice of words,” he said. “I didn’t mean anything by it. I was kind of joking around with my buddy over there, so I do want to apologize.”

I guess that’s an ok apology but he shoulda stood by his guns and when he was asked about it, he shoulda said it even louder.  Oh well.  I guess that’s what you get when you get a bunch of white boys to do the derby.

Rick Reilly wants more hispanics and less whites in the HRD

Ok so talk about awkward. What are you supposed to do when you’re Karl Ravech, just calling the home run derby, minding your business and your partner says something like: “We have 8 white guys here,” then he goes on to talk about how there should’ve been more Hispanics selected.

Now in all fairness, he has a point but how do you respond to something like that? Especially if you consider the fact that both of them are white? “Yeah we need more latinos, not do whites have trouble jumping but the ladies say they don’t know how to handle the long ball either.”

It doesn’t work. Ravech did the right thing and just changed the subject as soon as possible.

Home Run Derby 2008: Josh Hamilton hits a record 28 Home Runs [Video]

Ok so I will probably write a post tomorrow or something about the guy that actually won the 2008 Home Run Derby, Justin Morneau but that will have to wait.

Tonight I’m posting this video about the tattoo sportin’ Josh Hamilton from the Texas Rangers who pretty much stole the show. Even though he was the home run derby runner up, he broke the record for the most home runs in a single round by belting out 28 home runs. Bobby Abreu had the previous record of 24 that he hit in 2005.

Josh Hamilton, who was a previous drug and alcohol addict, shows that you can drink and do drugs and still succeed. Let that be a lesson kiddos.

Here is a video of all of his home runs in the record breaking round.

Bobby Murcer dies at age 62

The Yankee icon Bobby Murcer died yesterday from complications of his brain cancer.

He was pronounced dead at the Mercy Hospital in his hometown of Oklahoma City.

Very sad day for the Yankees faithful.

Corey Hart gets a beer bath and his daughter gets traumatized

After Corey Hart got his All Star bid, his teammates thought that it would be a good idea to ambush him during his press conference with bottles of beer. Seemed like a good idea but with his daughter in his arms, it means she will be scarred for life… :-\

Team celebrations are a great thing. I’ve seen some pretty cool ones over the years but this one is unique in the fact that it involved Corey Hart’s infant daughter.

Thanks to AA for this one.

In defense of Red Sox Nation…

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the Red Sox or Red Sox Nation but here a little video that made me look at them in a new light…. like cheesy white boys trying to rap. It’s a funny little video though.
