Brad Miller loves the weed

Sacramento Kings center Brad Miller was suspended for 5 games for violating the NBA’s substance abuse policy. He was caught again smoking weed. Now while I don’t have a problem with him smoking to ease all the stresses of being a multimillionaire athlete, just DON’T GET CAUGHT.

Miller will miss the first five games of the season, likely for testing positive for marijuana for a third time. “I want to apologize to my family, teammates, fans and entire Kings organization,” Miller said. “I made a mistake. It was an error in judgment and I’m very sorry. I regret it deeply.” Spencer Hawes will likely get an opportunity to start the first five games. And if he plays well, Hawes could permanently take over the starting center job for the Kings. And a fourth positive test for marijuana carries a 10-game suspension.

If you want to smoke weed, the NBA isn’t the place for you. Get a job working for yourself so you don’t have to worry about drug testing like… uhhhh… I dunno, Blogging. :-D

Elton Brand signs with the 76ers: I bet Baron Davis feels like a Jackass

bbp-eltonbrand.jpg

Part of the reason why Baron Davis just suddenly left the Golden State Warriors for a Clippers team that has long been known as the “other” team in LA, was so that he would be able to play with one of the best big men in the game, in Elton Brand.

Oops.

Yesterday, Elton Brand verbally agreed to a contract with the 76ers worth about $85 million for five seasons, despite the fact that he said in the past that he would resign with the Clippers. His pairing with Baron Davis would’ve made a tough matchup for any team but now he will be in the East where they lack big men so he should be able to push a lot of guys around out there.

Better luck next time Baron.

Knicks say hello to Duhon and (will) say goodbye to Marbury

furhat.jpg

Chris Duhon signed with the 3 ring circus New York Knicks yesterday to make his own fireworks in New York.  The Knicks signed Duhon to a 2 year deal worth about $11.5 million.

It will be interesting to see how Duhon will fit in to Mike D’Antoni’s system. He was a career backup with the Bulls, should bring streaky shooting and poor defense to the team but on the bright side, he is a pass first guy which is a sharp contrast to recent Knick teams where everyone tries to take over.

It’s rumored that this signing will mark the end of the Knicks dysfunctional relationship with Stephon Marbury. Something tells me they won’t miss him… besides all of the run ins he’s had with his former coach Isiah and all the mediocre performances he’s led his team too, my favorite Stephon Marbury moment has to be this interview from a little over a year ago.

Crack is whack Stephon.

Good luck to Chris Duhon in New York. You have some big shoes to fill.

RIP Sonics

So if you haven’t heard by now, its finalized.  The Sonics are moving out of Seattle to go to Oklahoma City.  (I really didn’t even know anyone lived in Oklahoma)

Anyway, I don’t have any particular feelings about this except for the fact that I think that it just proves that all of these guys are liars.  I think Matt over at With Leather said it best:

Fuck that lying piece of shit Clay Bennett.  Fuck David Stern, that collusive cocksucker.  Fuck Howard Schultz for selling the team to Bennett, and fuck Starbucks, too.  Fuck Seattle’s limp-dick government.  Fuck Hurricane Katrina.  And fuck Oklahoma fans who get indignant and say that they’re more deserving of an NBA team than Seattle, the victim of uncaring ownership and a city whose only crime was not shelling out more tax dollars so a carpetbagging son of a bitch could make more fistfuls money.

Get fucked, NBA.

Michael Beasley gets hurt during first practice… Can’t come out to play anymore

4209849_550×550_mb_art_r0.jpg

Michael Beasley has only been in the NBA for a very short period of time and he is already hurt. He left his first official practice in the league yesterday. Damn, that didn’t take long:

Beasley was struck in the chest by an inadvertent elbow during a defensive drill about 45 minutes into Miami’s first summer-league workout session Wednesday, and the No. 2 overall pick in last week’s NBA draft was taken to a doctor for observation.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the move was strictly precautionary and should not affect Beasley’s availability for Miami’s five-games-in-five-days run through the Orlando summer league, which opens Monday.

They claim that it was just precautionary but we’ll see. Beasley doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that is soft but who knows. I guess they are going to take care of their little baby boy to make sure that he doesn’t scrape any knees or get any bumps or bruises.

Gimme a break.

Baron Davis agrees to join the Clippers

244059.jpg

Man, this whole situation with Baron Davis has been one surprise for me after another. First, he opted out of his contract with the Warriors. I thought he was happy at Golden St but I guess not.

So even though he opted out, I still thought the Warriors may come away with him but later on last night I found out that he agreed to sign with the Clippers.

Before you call him a sellout, it turns out he is actually taking less money with the Clippers than he would’ve been getting with the Warriors. He was going to make close to $18m next year with the Warriors but instead he will get about $13m with the Clippers.

So let me get this straight, this guy took less money, to play for a crappier team. The only reason I could think why he would really want to play there is because he is from Los Angeles. They do have some young talent there with the Clippers but if they don’t resign Elton Brand then it will be a long season for them.

Gilbert Arenas could be headed back to Golden State

gilbert-arenas-warrior.jpg

Is this a good look for Gilbert Arenas? You may have to get used to it again. After news dropped of Baron Davis opting out of his contract agent 0’s former team the Golden State Warriors decided to try and nab Arenas while they have the opportunity.

Then, according to my sources, the Warriors quickly burned the phones and offered former Warrior Gilbert Arenas a maximum-level contract, one that would pay him more than $100 million over five years. My source told me that Gilbert received a flurry of phone calls from the Warriors in the first 30 minutes of free agency.

[...]

According to a source close to Arenas, the three-time all star is mulling the offers but is leaning towards staying with the Wizards and is willing to take less than the maximum if it will help Grunfeld make other moves he needs to make this summer.

So lets say they are able to acquire Arenas, even though he said that would resign with the Wizards if they resigned Antawn Jamison (which they did), where would that leave the Warriors. That would probably make Arenas the 2 guard and they would run Monta Ellis at the point guard position, which really isn’t his natural position but it could work.

Honestly I like this deal for the Warriors, I think Gilbert’s clutch shooting and ability to push the ball up the floor will work well with their system. They will be fun to watch but they probably still wouldn’t make the playoffs in the West.

Greg Oden has no friends

Here is a video of Greg Oden and his best friend Charles Barkley McLovin. Yeah, I think it’s safe to assume that he doesn’t get out much. Thats probably a good thing though, at least hes not out there making rain or blowing thousands of dollars at the Wynn.

Still kind of sad though.
