Is this a good look for Gilbert Arenas? You may have to get used to it again. After news dropped of Baron Davis opting out of his contract agent 0's former team the Golden State Warriors decided to try and nab Arenas while they have the opportunity.

Then, according to my sources, the Warriors quickly burned the phones and offered former Warrior Gilbert Arenas a maximum-level contract, one that would pay him more than $100 million over five years. My source told me that Gilbert received a flurry of phone calls from the Warriors in the first 30 minutes of free agency.

[...]

According to a source close to Arenas, the three-time all star is mulling the offers but is leaning towards staying with the Wizards and is willing to take less than the maximum if it will help Grunfeld make other moves he needs to make this summer.

So lets say they are able to acquire Arenas, even though he said that would resign with the Wizards if they resigned Antawn Jamison (which they did), where would that leave the Warriors. That would probably make Arenas the 2 guard and they would run Monta Ellis at the point guard position, which really isn't his natural position but it could work.

Honestly I like this deal for the Warriors, I think Gilbert's clutch shooting and ability to push the ball up the floor will work well with their system. They will be fun to watch but they probably still wouldn't make the playoffs in the West.

Greg Oden has no friends

Here is a video of Greg Oden and his best friend Charles Barkley McLovin. Yeah, I think it's safe to assume that he doesn't get out much. Thats probably a good thing though, at least hes not out there making rain or blowing thousands of dollars at the Wynn.

Still kind of sad though.

Baron Davis and Elton Brand opt out…. Whats next?

baron1.jpg

Well I have to admit, I didn't see this one coming. Two NBA stars opted out of their contracts with their current teams to test the completely broke market. Baron Davis left 17.8 million on the table to become a free agent and Elton Brand left $16 million on the table. These are two franchise players that anyone would love to have on their team but who can afford them?

Man, and I really liked Baron Davis at Golden St. He should still try to resign with them if they give him a better offer, he really doesn't have a lot of other options.

Elton Brand on the other hand, I could see ending up in Philly where they have an open slot at the four spot and could use a player of his talent level.

2008 NBA Free Agent Rankings

Chad Ford over at ESPN looks at this years weak crop of NBA free agents and the teams that may have enough money to sign some of these guys.  There is hope for fans of teams that were disappointed with their draft picks like the Knicks.  Oh wait, the Knicks are over the salary cap.... oops.

Knicks fans BOOOOO to Danilo Gallinari: Welcome to New York young fella

New York is such a warm and welcoming place. They are so open minded and they encourage their professional athletes, even if they are unhappy with them. LoL... Sike.

The New York Knicks fans who were in attendance at the NBA draft last night were hoping for a guard to be picked for their bumbling squad. First they wanted to get OJ Mayo. He got picked third. Than they wanted Russell Westbrook. Oops wrong again. With the 6th pick and arguably the second best point guard in the draft still available (Jerryd Bayless), they wanted the Knicks to go ahead and pull the trigger with him.

Well that didn't work out either. With the sixth pick they select Danilo Gallinari and the fans weren't happy about it. Above is one video of them booing. Here is another video I found from a different view, but still the same results of BOOOOOOOOOOOs being heard around NYC.

Brook Lopez is the next Brady Quinn… well not quite

Former Stanford Center Brook Lopez was predicted by many to be a top 5 pick during last nights draft. So much for that. He ended up going at number 10 to the New Jersey Nets. This is a video of him sharing his thoughts about how bored he was during the process, how he and Brady Quinn have a lot in common and how he doesn't really know much about his new team. Funny stuff. Thanks to Odenized for the video.

Paul Pierce on Jimmy Kimmel

Well I'm glad to see that Paul Pierce has a good sense of humor. This is a video of him on Jimmy Kemmel Live last night. He came out in a wheelchair to halfway make fun of himself even though he still swears that his game 1 injury was real. Maybe one day he'll admit it.

Big trade day: Bucks get Richard Jefferson, Raptors get Jermaine O’Neal

jo.jpg

The big news coming out of the NBA today hasn't been the draft (yet), it's been all of the big trades that have been going down today. These deals should change some things, particularly in the Eastern conference.

Jermaine O'Neal to the Raptors

The first deal was the deal between the Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers get point guard T.J. Ford, center Rasho Nesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and Toronto’s first-round pick (No. 17) in tonight’s NBA draft in exchange for forward Jermaine O'Neal.

The deal been agreed upon but won't be finalized until July 9th because that is after the league’s mandatory moratorium period ends and Ford’s base-year compensation tag comes off the books. The players also have to pass physicals but besides those things, this deal is all but done.

The deal will change the look of the Raptors. If Jermain O'Neal can stay healthy (which he couldn't do in Indy) than he is one of the top forwards in the league. He and Chris Bosh will make one of the toughest front line in the league.

The deal should free up the point guard position in Toronto for the Jose Calderon and will also help the Pacer solidify their point guard issues.

Richard Jefferson to the Bucks, Yi Jianlian to the Nets

Marc Stein reported today that the Nets made a deal sending forward Richard Jefferson to the Bucks for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Summons. There were no draft picks involved with the deal.

This deal kind of surprised me considering that Yi is a young player who was just developing and he had a fairly productive rookie season averaging 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 66 games. I guess since they decided to get rid of their old GM Larry Harris this season, they decided that getting rid of his draft pick would also help.

The deal helps both sides a lot. The Bucks get some veteran leadership in Jefferson. RJ is a proven winner who can help them attempt to turn things around on a squad that has better talent than their 26-56 record would indicate. Milwaukee will also get rid of the huge contract of Bobby Simmons. He is under contract to receive $20 million over the next years

The Nets are in the process of attempting to rebuild their team and acquire as much young talent as possible. In Yi they get a 7 footer who has a great stroke. He is a younger version of Dirk Nowitzki and he is only 20 years old so he get added to a team of a lot of good young players.
