Gilberts pool

This blog is hardly MTV Cribs or anything like that. I don’t usually like to look at other people’s things unless I am purchasing them myself but I had to make an exception this time.

Here is Gilbert Arenas‘ new pool. Imagine the parties you could throw if you had a pool like this. This is like something out of the playboy mansion. DC sports blog has more pics.

Is Ron Artest a good fit in Houston??

artestmohawk.jpg

Hmmm… So I’m still trying to decide if I like this Ron Artest deal that went down today.

NBA front-office sources confirmed to ESPN.com that Artest will be dealt to the Rockets in exchange for Houston’s first-round draft pick in 2009, ex-King Bobby Jackson (who arrives with a $6.1 million expiring contract) and the draft rights to Donte Greene. The Kings will also receive more than $1 million in cash, according to The Houston Chronicle, but the deal can’t be announced before Aug. 14 because Greene is not eligible to be traded before then.

This is an interesting deal. If you look at it on paper, this team looks like they will be unstoppable. With this deal they will become the deepest lineup in the league.

Yao/Deke…Scola/Landry/Hayes/Dorsey…Artest/Battier/Novak/Harris….Tmac/Barry/Head….Rafer/Francis/Brooks.

If everyone can stay healthy and sane then this could be a big season for the Rockets.

Will Ron Artest be able to keep his cool?? I think he will probably be ok. The Rockets have a lot of vets on the team that won’t have that. Guys like Tmac, Battier and Barry will help keep things cool.

I think this is a great deal for the Rockets.

It’s not bad for the Kings either. They get two expiring contracts and a young guy with a lot of potential in Donte Greene plus a first rounder next year.

NBA Ref Donaghy gets 15 Month Bid

nba_g_sketch_600.jpg

ESPN - Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy was sentenced to 15 months in prison Tuesday for setting off a gambling scandal that tarnished the league’s reputation and raised questions about the integrity of its officiating.

I think this is a pretty lenient sentence. He definitely should’ve gotten more time but of course since he cooperated he got less time.

When dudes start snitching you really can’t tell whats the truth and whats not. I hope he was lying about the NBA fixing games with the refs but I don’t know.

I’ll tell you one thing though, I’m still pissed about the Kings/Lakers game in 2002.

Andris Biedrins isn’t going anywhere

biedrins-and-gel-unstoppable-combo-fool.jpg

ESPN - NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that Biedrins was en route to Oakland on Sunday night after agreeing to a new six-year contract with the Warriors believed to be worth nearly $63 million. The contract, sources said, will likely be signed Monday and include a player option for Biedrins to return to the free-agent market in the summer of 2013 after the fifth season.

Biedrins’ agent, Bill Duffy, confirmed the player’s verbal agreement with the Warriors on Sunday night, saying: “I am so ecstatic for this young man, who came to a new country as an 18-year-old and has worked diligently to improve his game and assimilate to the NBA. He is committed to the Warriors and will continue to improve and help stabilize this team for the next six years.”

He got paid more than he probably should’ve because of the threat of him going overseas. Will this be a new trend of teams trying to stop guys from going to Europe to play? I hope not.

At least the New York Knicks Dancers don’t suck… Wait, we want them to suck

Knicks Dancers

The New York Knicks have been a really bad team and the laughing stock of the entire NBA for the past few years but Uncoached proved today that at least their dancers are no laughing matter.

I really love seeing cheerleaders from different teams partying. Even though, I’ve got to be honest… The Knicks Dancers don’t really have anything on the Kings Dancers. Oh well, they’ll do.

Nike releases Hypercock-in-face ads… Homophobic?

That aint right

Ok so here are the new Nike Hyperdunk ads that you may see in the streets of NYC or LA right now. Obviously the ads depict guys getting posterized in a not so lovely way.

These ads have started a bit of a controversy.  On WK and Gawker people are crying out that these pics are homophobic.  I guess it’s because it shows the guys who are being posterized, in a crappy position.

I really don’t think they’re that bad though.  I think people need to lighten up and just be happy that they aren’t the dude in the red right now.

What do you guys think?  Are these pics homophobic?

Old Timers Day: 50 year old Nancy Lieberman signs with the Shock

nm_nancy_lieberman_080724_mn.jpg

ESPN - The Shock signed 50-year-old Nancy Lieberman, a Hall of Famer and one of their former coaches, to a seven-day contract on Thursday. She played 9:14 seconds in the Shock’s 79-61 loss to the Houston Comets on Thursday night. Lieberman was 0-for-1 from the floor with two assists and two turnovers.

“It’s really a one-game deal,” Lieberman said in a telephone interview. “My motivation stems from the fact that I love this game and I never stopped playing it whether it’s a pickup game with Deion Sanders and Tony Romo at a church or at a park with my son.”

So I guess this was an effort to distract fans from the mishap of the other night when the women got into a huge catfight.

Did it work?

I don’t know but it certainly got the media’s attention, and rightfully so. Lieberman is 50. That’s right, 50. No I’m serious, she’s really 50.

The only player in recent history who still played professional sports later than her was Julio Franco who just recently retired at the age of 132.

It’s too bad Lieberman really didn’t help the much. Without most of their squad, the Shock easily got pounded by the Comets 79-61. Oh well. Better stick to bingo.
