Brett Favre is a Jet??

Ok so I know this is old news now but I had a busy week last week so I'm catching up with everything now.

Last week Brett Favre was traded to the Jets for conditional draft picks.

ESPN - According to the NFL Network, if Favre takes 50 percent of total snaps with the Jets in 2008, the fourth-rounder becomes a third-round pick. If he gets 70 percent of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs, it becomes a second-round pick; and if he gets 80 percent of snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, it becomes a first-round pick.

So is this a good deal or not for the Jets?

I guess it is for now. The Jets have made a lot of moves in the offseason that have made them a much better team but the top issue for them was who was going to be their QB.

Long time Jet Chad Pennington and youngster Kellen Clemens were in competition for the starting job but since the Jets acquired Brett Favre, they released Chad. That's a sad for me because I was always a Pennington fan, despite all of the negative press he got for having a "weak" arm and to make matters worse, the Dolphins picked him up.

I am really worried that this will become a situation where Brett Favre will be like Michael Jordan on the Wizards or Joe Montana on the Chiefs.  In other words, an older player who is no longer relevant, playing on a team that he has no business on because he doesn't want to retire yet and instead of helping his legacy, he only tarnishes it.

Only time will tell but my prediction is that the Jets will make the playoffs this year.  Although, I am a Jets fan so I say that every year.

It is an even year though, the last three seasons that have been even numbered years, they've made the playoffs.  So that's a good sign.

Brett is back

ESPN - The Green Bay Packers reluctantly embraced Favre's forced return to the football field Sunday, after failing to come to a financial agreement that would manage to make Favre happy while staying retired.

It's not yet clear what role Favre will play once he reports to Packers camp Monday, but sources told ESPN's Wendi Nix that coach Mike McCarthy will announce Monday he's holding an open competition between Favre and Aaron Rodgers for the starting quarterback position.

I'm just as tired of this whole fiasco between Brett Favre and the Packers as the next guy but I had to report this.

Add a competition for the starting QB job in Green Bay to the potential possibilities of where Brett Favre may end up.

I don't even know what to believe anymore. My money is on him playing but not for the Packers.

For now he's still a Packer.  He just arrived to Green Bay this morning and got a heroes welcome.

At least they are loyal.

So if it ends up being Brett Favre vs Aaron Rodgers, who ya got?

The Brett Favre saga continues

Newsday - In other words, the Jets were no closer Thursday night to dealing for Favre than they were last Friday when they were first mentioned as being one of his suitors.

Though the Jets have not closed the door on dealing for Favre, each passing day makes a deal less likely.

Good. I really don't think that Brett Favre in Jets green in a good look for either side. When Brett Actually does retire in another year or two, the Jets will be in the same position they are in now only with no quarterback. They need to figure out what they are going to do for the future.

JS - A source close to the situation told the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday that the Packers were considering seeking a deal with one of their division rivals, most probably the Minnesota Vikings or Chicago Bears, if backed into a corner by the National Football League and public sentiment.

Wouldn't that be crazy? I don't think they are going to do this though, especially not the Vikings.

Favre could be playing for the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS

According to ESPN, the Jets have been granted permission to talk Brett Favre about potentially joining the team. Yesterday the frontrunner for Favre was the Bucs but now it's looking like the Jets might land the disgruntled QB.

For the Packers, the Jets may be a good choice. They are not on the schedule for next year so they don't have to worry about facing off against Favre (unless they both make the Super Bowl).

Being a Jets fan myself, I really don't like this idea. I really don't think the squad is good enough that they would Favre would make that much of a difference. The Jets are still in the process of rebuilding and I don't think that having Favre for one of two years is gonna help that.

Although, if it helps us beat the fucking Patriots it might be worth it.

Brett Favre giving up on coming back?

After all the hoopla over the last couple of weeks of Brett Favre trying to make a comeback attempt, he may be giving up.  That easily??  Awww.  I wanted a few more weeks of the madness to continue. - [PFT]

Stephen A. Smith doesn’t like Brett Favre that much

No hot sports topics is complete without the Stephen A. Smith giving his two cents on it.

Here is a video I found over at AA of Stephen A. giving his opinion on the whole Brett Favre situation. In between all the loud talk and annoying banter, he does make a few decent points. It's too bad he's so annoying or else we might actually listen to what he's saying.

Whoever works for ESPN who thought it would be a good idea to have S.A.S. comment on Brett Favre is an idiot. Stick to basketball Stephen.

Brett Favre might be coming back for another team?

p1_favre1.jpg

Ok so there have been some interesting new developments in the whole Brett Favre situation. First he retired and since then, theres been lots of speculation that he would be returning but no one really knew for sure.

ESPN reported a bombshell though yesterday that Brett Favre sent a letter to the Packers stating that he wanted to be released. Oh no!!

The Packers have stated in the past that he would has had the opportunity to return to the team but since he has made the commitment to retire, they are in the process of "moving forward" with the team.

"Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion.

"Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement," the news release added. "The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team."

Many people feel like Brett Favre shouldn't ruin his legacy by finishing his career with another team but I think Favre should do whats best for him.

If he wants to come back and play for another team he should be able to. I wouldn't like it much either because it would be like Michael Jordan played for the Wizards or when Hakeem Olajuwon played for the Raptors. During those times it was kind of hard to watch those players because they were clearly on the downside of their careers. It will probably be different for Favre though, because last season was one of the best of his career so he clearly still has it and at the end of the day, no one really remembered Mike and Hakeem's seasons with those team. They remember the glory days. I think the same thing will happen for Favre.

A lot of people don't expect the Packers to release Favre but if they aren't going to allow him to play for them next season, they should respect him enough to let him see what else is out there. It's like that long relationship your in and you want to break up with your girlfriend but you can't because you've been together for so long that you don't want to see her with anyone else.

Just let Brett do his thing. Aaron Rodgers is their guy for the future so go with him. Just ask Favre not to sign with the Bears or the Vikings. If they pussyfoot around with this though, he might sign with one of those division rivals just for spite. Could you imagine seeing Favre come back to Lambeau Field in another uniform?

Would the fans boo or cheer? I don't know but if he wants to, they should respect him enough to give him the right to do it. It's his legacy, it's his decision and at the end of the day everyone can blog all they want but he will be the one who has to deal with any consequences or benefits of returning. Good luck Brett.
