Derek Rose out with tendinitis in his knee

First time here? Subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Whats up with all the number 1 draft picks having problems with their knees?  First Greg Oden last year and now Derek Rose.  Can we get a healthy number 1 pick?

Derek Rose will be out for a while with tendinitis in his knee.  I guess it's good that they found it now and before the season started.

Rose, the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, sat out a second consecutive summer league game on Thursday because of nagging tendinitis in his right knee. He won't play in Friday's finale.

Rose said he will likely undergo an MRI on the knee when he returns to Chicago this weekend.

The Bull hire Vinny Del Negro as head coach…. unless they change their mind again

Vinny Del Negro

Sources tell the Chicago Tribune that the Bulls are closing in on a deal that will make Vinny Del Negro their next head coach.

The Bulls have offered their head coaching job to Vinny Del Negro, which the Suns' assistant general manager is prepared to accept, sources said Monday.

Now you'll remember that they thought they had their guy in Doug Collins but then he changed his mind so barring any last minute changes by the Bulls or the Del Negro, he should be the next coach.

Mike D’Antoni wants the Bulls job

Suns Head Coach Mike D'Antoni was allowed by the team to interview with other teams for their head coaching positions. He has been interviewing with the Knicks and the Bulls. Both in great basketball markets but with not so great teams (especially the Knicks).

According to sources, Mike D'Antoni has told John Paxson that he wants the head coaching job in Chicago. No word yet on whether or not John Paxson wants D'Antoni but either way, don't expect to see D'Antoni back with the Suns next year.

Steve Kerr maintains that they are not firing D'Antoni and that they want him back as the head coach.

"As we have continued to convey, we value Mike D'Antoni as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns and would like him to continue leading this basketball team," Kerr's statement said. "Because he has requested to speak to other teams about their head-coaching vacancies, we have granted him permission. We will have no further comment until this process further evolves."

Riiiiiigggghhhhtttt

He just needs someone to take the fall for the whole Shaquille O'neal debacle.

NBA Wrap: Celtics > Texas, Lakers snap Jazz home win streak, Spurs rout the Bulls

allen_032108.jpgCeltics 94 - Mavericks 90

The Celtics became the first team since the Kings in 2001 to sweep all of the Texas teams on a single road trip. First they gave the Spurs their first home loss in six weeks, then they snapped the Rockets 22 game win streak, and last night they beat the Mavs last night 94-90.

In last nights game, Ray Allen hit a huge shot with 31 seconds left to beat help the Celtics to top the Mavs. It was the first time in a minute that all of the three stars for the Celtics were in the starting lineup. Ray Allen finished with 21 points in 31 minutes. Paul Pierce scored 22 and had a season-high 13 rebounds. Kevin Garnett added 20 and 13.

Lakers 106 - Jazz 95

The Jazz were on a roll at home. Winning 19 consecutive home games and holding the best home record in the league. The Lakers came in last night unconcerned with their streak and took the win 106-95.

The Lakers jumped out of the gates early, hitting 9 of their first 10 shots and ended the first quarter with a 20 point lead. They never let the crowd get into the game and held off a late Jazz run to get the win.

Kobe Bryant finished the game with 27 points and this play where he makes a over the back pass and goes on to start reppin his squad. Haters commence.

Spurs 102 - Bulls 80

The Spurs were on a four game losing streak? Thats right, the defending champions. Sound the alarms, oh wait nevermind, they were playing the Bulls last night.

The Spurs came into Chi -town playing some of their worst ball of Tim Duncan's career but playing the Bulls was just what they needed to get back on track. Tim Duncan led the way with 22 and 10 helped the Spurs to 102-80 stomping.

NBA Wrap: The Champs are slippin, Paul and Howard carry their teams

pierce_080317.jpgCeltics 93 - Spurs 91

The Celtics could've easily packed it in last night. After an embarassing first half where they were down by as many as 22, they rallied to come back on the road against the champs for the win.

They didn't and with big nights from Paul Pierce (22 points), Kevin Garnett (21 points), Rajon Rondo (20 points) and Sam Cassell (17 points), they made the comeback in the second half to pull out the narrow 93-91 win over the Spurs. The champs have lost 4 in a row and 6 out of their last 7. They better get this handled now, or else they may be a 4th seed in the playoffs, or worse.

The Spurs lost this one at home, despite Robert Horry's best attempt to get inside the opponents head.

Bulls 97 - Hornets 108

Chris Paul is making his bid for MVP this season legit with performances like the one last night. He single-handedly took over the game in the second half and finished with game highs of 37 points and 13 rebounds. Paul lead the Hornets to a very thrilling 108-97 win over the Bulls after trailing most of the second half.

Magic 104 - Cavaliers 90

The Magic shot better from 3 points than they did from the rest of the field. They shot 14 of 32 from the 3 point line. Dwight Howard handled the rest scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. This helped the Magic take a 2-1 season series lead on the Cavs with their 104-90 victory.

Hawks 105 - Wizards 96

The Hawks currently have the longest postseason drought in the league. It's been nearly 10 years since the Hawks last made the playoffs but that may end this year. With their 105-96 win over the Wizards last night the Hawks moved past the Nets for the 8th spot. Watch out for the squads that are fighting and clawing for the last playoff spots. Unless of course they are the Hawks who manage to find a way to miss the playoffs like no other.

NBA Wrap: Suns actually win?!? Pistons are in the playoffs, Beno Udrih > Kobe Bryant?

shaq_080309.jpgSuns 94 - Spurs 87

So this is why the Suns felt they needed Shaquille Oneal. This is the exact reason. They wanted to be able to beat the Spurs. Now if only they could beat anyone else than we might actually call it a good trade.

Shaq scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Suns beat their bitter rival Spurs 94-87. Shaq provided the Suns with the toughness inside that they'd really been lacking over the last few years. Shaq was hustling all over the place, at one point he even dove into the stands, catching a fan with a elbow to the mouth. Ouch. He said he was just tryin to avoid the kids. Good thing for them he did.

Pistons 116 - Bulls 109

The Pistons got a nice scare in this one. They almost lost a key starter to injury. Much to the dismay of the rest of the Eastern conference, Tayshaun Prince got back up and he was even better than he was before scoring 15 points in the final 17 minutes of the game to help the Pistons to a 116-109 win over the Bulls.

"I couldn't feel my hand, and I knew that wasn't good,'' said Prince, who was injured on a third-quarter foul by Larry Hughes. "I thought I was going to have to shoot my free throws one-handed, but I got enough feeling back to make the shots, and then I hit a 3, so I figured I would keep going.''

Fortunately for the Pistons Tayshaun should be fine.

Kings 114 - Lakers 113

4.6 seconds remaining and Beno Udrih was at the free throw line with a chance to put the Kings up against the hated Lakers.  He knocked down both free throws giving them a slim lead.

Everyone in the arena knew who would be getting the ball for the Lakers and he did.  Kobe Bryant took the ball and tried to drive it down with only seconds left but ran into a double team brick wall.  Instead he tried the fadeaway.... and missed.

The Kings managed to step up against the Lakers for the 114-113 win, in LA.  Now if only they could beat teams like the Wolves at home.

Lebron James’ long distance buzzer beaters

Ok so we all know that LeBron James is good, like really good, like really really good but this is just ridiculous. He had a 50 point game against the Knicks then a 39 point game against the Bull the following night. Just a normal day at the office for LeBron but these two shots that he knocked down during the games were nothing short of unbelievable.

NBA Wrap: Texas teams keep winning just won’t lose… except the Mavs

t-mac_030708.jpgRockets 113 - Mavericks 98

So it's pretty nice living in Houston right now. Theres a big buzz about the Rockets even though they are without Yao, no one is worried. The Rockets are ballin right now.

Last night the Rockets went into Dallas and put a beatin on the Mavs (which is always a good thing), 113-98. The play that pretty much sealed the deal for the Rockets was an alley oop from Rafer Alston to Tracy Mcgrady in the fourth quarter. Afterwards, T-mac looked over at the Mavs bench and just smiled.

Spurs 108 - Pacers 97

The Spurs are another Texas team that has just been playing off the chain lately. They won their 11th straight game last night in their 108-97 win over the Spurs.

Their success has been mainly due to the fact that Manu Ginobili has been the best 2 guard in the league over the last month and a half (besides Kobe). Ginobili had another stellar game last night scoring 28 points on 10-13 shooting.

Ginobili's play in the game was great but his defense on his irate coach could use some work.

“I tried to box him out,” Ginobili said of his unsuccessful attempt to block coach Gregg Popovich, who was ejected. “I could have done better.”

Bulls 107 - Cavaliers 96

LeBron had a little bit of heat left over after his 50 point night in New York.  He had a big first half with 26 points but shot poorly in the second half and the Bulls pulled away for the 107-96 win.  LeBron can't do it alone every night.
